Signature keynote
The Human Advantage. Creativity, curiosity and connection in the age of intelligence.
Machines are getting very good at the doing. What's left for us is the interesting part: imagining, questioning and connecting. This keynote looks at what that means for your people, in their own brains and teams, and how to get better at it on purpose.
Why Brad
Someone who has spent twenty years on the human side of technology.
Brad came up through the first internet economy, building digital platforms for Unilever, National Australia Bank and the University of Sydney before the agency years burnt him out and turned him toward the question he has worked on since: what lets people thrive while everything around them accelerates? That question took him through a decade at the Resilience Institute, the founding of the Values Institute and FLAME, five books including Start With Values (Hatherleigh Press, distributed by Penguin Random House), and more than 100,000 people in audiences across five continents.
His lens is the neuroscience of the predictive brain: the finding that minds do not passively perceive the world, they generate it from prediction. It is the most useful idea he knows for understanding why creativity is a state before it is a skill (the Rick Rubin essay), why curiosity is the capacity to update, and why connection is something a team predicts rather than a value on a poster (psychological safety, properly). He pairs that science with the wisdom traditions that anticipated it, and he writes about the human side of intelligence in essays like Natural vs Artificial Intelligence.
It's not a warning and it's not a pep talk. It's an honest, hopeful look at what's actually changing, what isn't, and what a person or a team can do about it on Monday. People leave with a clearer picture of what they're good at that machines aren't, and a few practices to build on it.
What the keynote covers
What machines take, what remains, and how to grow it.
What's actually changing
What's getting cheap, what that does to work and attention, and why the human part of the job gets more important, not less. No doom, no hype, just what's happening.
Creativity is a state before it is a skill
The predictive brain only makes new connections when it is not defending itself. How depletion kills imagination, what Rick Rubin and the neuroscience agree on, and how to design for the state that creative work needs.
Curiosity: the capacity to update
Expertise hardens predictions. Curiosity loosens them. Why the people and teams who update fastest will do best in the age of intelligence, and the practices that keep a mind open under pressure.
Connection is a prediction too
Psychological safety, belonging and trust reframed through the predictive brain: they are forecasts a team runs about each other, rebuilt in seconds, in meetings, in the moment after someone takes a risk.
How it works
Conference keynote, leadership session or opening act for a transformation.
The keynote runs 45 to 60 minutes and is built for conferences, leadership summits, offsites and company-wide events, especially those where AI, change or the future of the organisation is on the agenda. It carries a room: science, story, humour and, usually, a moment of live performance magic that demonstrates the predictive brain better than any slide.
For leadership teams it extends into a half-day or full-day working session in which the team maps where its own human advantage lies, what is depleting it, and which practices to build. Brad has delivered leadership and performance sessions for PwC, Shell, Electronic Arts, Fonterra, Fletcher Building, Toyota and Sport New Zealand, and inside The Icehouse's Owner Manager and Leadership Development Programmes.
Brad is based in New Zealand and available across the country and internationally, in person and virtually. Every booking includes a discovery call so the session fits your industry and the questions your people are actually asking.
Brad delivered an engaging and insightful presentation on wellbeing and performance that resonated strongly with our audience. The session attracted excellent feedback from attendees, who valued the practical relevance of his FLAME framework and his engaging presentation style.
What sets Brad apart is his ability to translate high-performance concepts into something tangible and actionable. We've seen the impact firsthand — not just in the moment, but in how our people keep applying the tools in their day-to-day roles.
His ability to bring together science, storytelling and practical ideas made the session incredibly relatable. Brad introduced the idea of our ‘body budget’ and how the everyday things we do, like sleep, movement, connection, nourishment and moments of calm, can either add to or draw from the energy we have available. Our people came away feeling energised, reflective and, as one person put it, ‘fired up!’
The FLAME full day workshop was an extremely engaging professional development opportunity for our team. Brad's authentic approach, expert facilitation, and ability to read the room created an environment that encouraged genuine reflection, connection, and learning. The practical frameworks with real-life experiences made the learning both meaningful and immediately applicable.
Brad delivered an outstanding session for our team at our Connexa Connect Session. His content was engaging, practical and highly relevant to the challenges and opportunities our people face every day. He has a unique ability to make important concepts around mindset, performance and resilience simple, relatable and actionable. Our people left with practical tools, a shared language and plenty to reflect on. I’d happily recommend Brad to any organisation looking to build more resilient teams.
I've had the pleasure of working with Brad over several years while supporting the wellbeing and development of a globally dispersed organisation of around 160 people. Brad has a rare ability to combine deep expertise with genuine warmth and humility. From the resilience-based thinking that underpinned our early work together to the development of the Values Institute and now FLAME, Brad has continued to refine and strengthen his approach while remaining human-centred and evidence-based. I would recommend him without hesitation.
Quite honestly, the star of the two days training. His subject matter expertise was exceptional; delivery style was masterful and was a true inspiration to witness speak.
Bradley delivered an engaging, informative, and practical presentation that held everyone's attention and gave us plenty to reflect on. We would be happy to recommend Bradley to any organisation looking for a professional, insightful, and engaging speaker.
What a presentation — I honestly was blown away. All of what you presented resonated with me and my journey so far, from professional sport to my vocational life.
Engaging, thoughtful and deeply practical. Everyone is still talking about it days later!
The majority of attendees rated the session a perfect 5 out of 5, and many highlighted Brad's content as a personal highlight of the programme.
Brad's stories are engaging, and certainly resonated with all of us. We can highly recommend Brad.
Absolutely brilliant, engaging, practical, and energizing.
Outstanding presenter, facilitator, communicator and educator.
A special shout out to Bradley Hook, whose presentation skills were on a whole other TED Talk level!
My biggest takeaway was learning about his FLAME Method, a clear, actionable framework designed to help us “burn bright, not out” by redesigning our habits for the modern world. This framework is exactly what we need to sustain high energy levels, perform at our peak, and most importantly, avoid burnout.
Genuinely helps people improve their wellbeing and health.
It was great to hear Brad talk, and I've had a couple of good wins coming out of the session. My three-year-old's sleep routine is down to about 30 minutes — it used to take a couple of hours!

Questions
Booking The Human Advantage: the practical bits.
What is The Human Advantage keynote about?
It is Brad Hook's signature keynote on creativity, curiosity and connection in the age of intelligence. It looks honestly at what machines are getting good at, makes the case that the human part of the job matters more as a result, and shows audiences how to get better at it, using the neuroscience of the predictive brain and a few very old ideas that got there first.
Is this a talk about AI?
AI is the backdrop, not the subject. The session is about people: how brains create, stay curious and connect, and what happens to those capacities under acceleration and depletion. Technical audiences find it refreshingly human; non-technical audiences find it reassuringly concrete.
Who is it for?
Conferences and leadership events where change, technology or the future of the organisation is on the agenda. It works for mixed audiences and for executive teams, and it pairs naturally with a technology-focused speaker on the same programme.
How does it differ from Brad's other keynotes?
The Human Advantage is the big-picture keynote: where all this is heading and what it asks of us. His other sessions go deep on one capacity each: leadership, resilience, well-being and mental fitness, values, high performance and the future of work. Many organisations open with The Human Advantage and follow with a focused workshop.
How do I book, and how far ahead?
Use the enquiry form on this page, or email brad@bradleyhook.com. Conference keynotes are best booked three to six months ahead; leadership sessions can often be arranged within a few weeks.
